Real-Time Systems (RTS) – a global provider of hypervisor technology and part of the congatec Group – has acquired Arendar IT-Security GmbH to expand its service portfolio, which will now include edge computing for secure OT/IT connectivity for the digitization of industrial machines, plants and processes. For RTS, this signifies a step towards a solution-oriented offering for OEMs and end users. The Arendar portfolio comprises IoT gateway solutions including edge and cloud middleware as well as software engineering services for the holistic digitization of industrial processes within systems and plants. Arendar has primarily been serving manufacturing companies in Germany. Acting as part of the global congatec Group, Real-Time Systems will now open up the Arendar offering to OEMs worldwide, which promises significantly higher economies of scale. The newly acquired solution portfolio will be presented to the broad trade audience for the first time at embedded world 2023.

Together, RTS hypervisor technology and the highly standardized embedded and edge computing ecosystem of the congatec Group provide an excellent foundation for embedding Arendar IT-Security’s solution portfolio into OEM and end-user applications. In sum, this creates a holistic solution for the digitization of industrial machines, plants and processes. Typical use cases of the Arendar portfolio include: reading data from PLCs, fieldbuses, and sensors, including universal protocol translation for unified communication; remote control and maintenance of systems; plant visualization in the cloud; creation of OT added value through horizontal IoT integration of multiple devices, machines and plants in collaborative clouds; and connectivity between business IT and OT – all protected against IP theft or sabotage by high cybersecurity.

About the ARENDAR:
The ARENDAR consists of a combination of hardware and middleware and can be used immediately for the most important applications of Industrie 4.0. These include process optimization, predictive maintenance, remote diagnostics and process and data visualization. Further functionalities are modularly expandable. With ARENDAR, production plants and IT can be fully networked with each other, and data from production can be collected, processed and passed on. At the same time, the strictly data-centric connection of OT and IT provides an important building block for defending against cyberattacks, especially on production equipment.
About the Innovation Award of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate:
The Innovation Award is awarded by the Ministry of Economics, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture together with the state working groups of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce and the Chambers of Crafts.
Companies that have their headquarters/location in Rhineland-Palatinate and develop, manufacture, use and market innovative products, processes or services there are eligible to participate. One prize will be awarded in each of the following categories:
Companies: Innovations from small and medium-sized enterprises that are members of a chamber of commerce and industry.
Crafts: Innovations by small and medium-sized enterprises that are members of a chamber of crafts.
Cooperation: Innovations developed in close cooperation with a partner, e.g. a research institution.
Special Industry Award: Innovations from companies that are not considered small or medium-sized enterprises.
Special prize of the Minister of Economics: For an innovation on an annually changing theme.
Applications could be submitted for innovative products, processes and services that have been responsibly developed by the applicant in Rhineland-Palatinate or where the main value creation takes place predominantly in Rhineland-Palatinate. In addition to the award, the jury can also award up to five “recognitions”.
